Susan D. Brandenburg is an award-winning biographer and freelance journalist with thirty years’ experience writing newspaper columns, feature articles, press releases, profiles, brochures and biographies. President of Susan the Scribe, Inc. Publishing, she now takes life stories from concept to completion – first interview to book in hand.
A bi-weekly columnist for the St. Augustine Record newspaper for decades, Susan’s articles have appeared in Women’s World Weekly, Chicken Soup for the Golfer’s Soul, FolioWeekly, ARBUS, Jacksonville Luxury Living Magazine, Jacksonville Magazine, Women’s Digest, H Magazine, Waters Edge, San Marco Magazine, Beaches Magazine, ACCESS, and more.
In 1999, Susan wrote the text and Mary Fisher Design provided the graphics for the Silver Addy Award Winning Project Book of Creative Environs Inc. International. In 2000, after three consecutive years of heading up the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program, Susan was designated the first Blue Community Champion, statewide. In 2003 and 2004, her Women’s Digest Cover Stories “Go Red and Beat Heart Disease,” and “Jacksonville’s Super Duos of the Heart” received the American Heart Association’s Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Communications.
Susan collaborated with the Rev. Doctors Don and Anne Bloch on the book Sailing the Seven C’s of Marriage (2004), wrote the chapter in the book Incidental Findings (2007) for the late philanthropist Herb Scheidel, the Teachers Guide for Henri Landwirth’s Gift of Life in America DVD (2007), and compiled materials/transcriptions for Stetson Kennedy’s Key West Memoir, Grits & Grunts (published by Pineapple Press in September, 2008).
Susan’s biography of Jacksonville businessman, Carlton Spence, GUTS, led to her writing of Doc Garland Granger’s story, entitled Sharecropper’s Son, winner of the Florida Writer’s Association 2010 Royal Palm Literary Award for Biographies. She has written several other published biographies, including the History of Rodeheaver Boys Ranch and is currently at work on her eleventh book, LUCKY LIFE, the Story of W. Scott McLucas. She is also editing a book by late author and activist, Stetson Kennedy, Land Be Bright – A Stetson Kennedy Reader.
With her motto, The Power of One, Susan points to God as the provider of her gift of words.
